Komatsu’s new WA500 wheeled loader offers increased productivity
2300 Komatsu says that its new WA500-7 wheel loader offers improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption, as well as increased output. Weighing in at 333tonnes, the WA500-7 has improved operator comfort with a larger and more spacious cab fitted with ergonomic controls and offering better visibility. Power comes from a Komatsu SAA6D140E-6 diesel rated at 263kW and which meets the necessary Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB emission requirements, while achieving a 10% improvement in fuel economy. Another performance gain comes from the hydraulically actuated Komatsu variable geometry turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, resulting in better precision and air management as well as longer component life. The WA500-7 also features Komatsu SmartLoader Logic, which provides optimum torque for the work being carried out and this helps to save fuel by automatically decreasing engine torque when the loader is more lightly loaded. The WA500-7 has a newly designed Komatsu large capacity torque converter with lock-up as standard and which boosts acceleration, improves performance on gradients and allows a higher top speed while lowering fuel consumption.

Better serviceability is said to help maximise productivity while lowering operating costs and this is further aided by the complimentary Komatsu CARE maintenance program for Komatsu customers that comes as standard with every new Komatsu Stage IIIB machine. For the first three years or 2,000 hours this package covers factory-scheduled maintenance, performed by Komatsu trained technicians. Komatsu CARE offers up to two complimentary Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (KDPF) exchanges and a KDPF warranty for the first 5 years or 9,000 hours.

The WA500-7 is equipped with the sophisticated KOMTRAX system, which uses wireless Internet connections to send machine operating information to a secure website. Data such as operating hours, fuel consumption, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. New data the system logs includes details about the type of work the machine is doing, information on the engine performance and on the number of active KDPF regenerations performed by the machine, and the time spent doing them.

The new LCD monitor can display machine information in 25 languages and operators can check operational records, such as working hours or fuel consumption; monitor the KDPF; or check how much time is required before the next maintenance interval. Safety features include a high-resolution back-up camera that is mounted on the right hand side of the console for operator convenience. This machine is suited to tough quarry and mining applications and can load high sided trucks even with a 5.6m³ bucket, saving valuable time at the jobsite, while its 40° steering articulation angle to both sides provides manoeuvrability in tight spaces for faster loading cycles.
