Increased fines for delays to roadworks

The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) is introducing new rules that boost fines for companies that delay road works. The fines jump by a factor of ten from £2,500/day (€2,775/day) to £25,000/day (€27,750/day).

The UK’s 5432 Department for Transport (DfT) is introducing new rules that boost fines for companies that delay road works.

The fines jump by a factor of ten from £2,500/day (€2,775/day) to £25,000/day (€27,750/day).

The DfT has also given local authorities greater powers that will allow them to charge utility companies wanting to dig up roads to inspect services. The measures are designed to reduce congestion and delays caused by road works and to make contractors and utility comapnies to operate more efficiently.

The utility companies will not be allowed to pass on the costs of tougher enforcement of the regulations to customers.
