Increase in road deaths in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s road deaths are increasing. Official data from the country’s Transport Ministry shows that 2,200 people were killed in road crashes in the period from January-September 2015. This is an increase of 349 over the same period for 2014. In all there were 36,050 road crashes in 2014 while there was a total of 2,440 deaths.

    Road deaths in France were down 7.6% in August 2012 compared to the same month in 2011. In total, 342 people were killed in road accidents.     A slight improvement in road safety has been seen in Kenya for the January to September 2017 period compared with the figures for the same months during 2016. There were 1,919 reported road deaths during January to September 2017 compared with 2,078 reported fatalities in January to September 2016. The number of drivers killed in crashes during January to September 2017 dropped to 212 while the number of pedestrians killed in road crashes during this period dropped to 714.
