Hungarian government reveals road transport development plans

The Hungarian government has unveiled its road development plans for the next 15 years. A new motorway is set to be built between Szolnok and Budapest. In addition, another motorway would be created between the Austrian border, Kormend, near Zalaegerszeg and Szombathely, Veszprem, Dunaujvaros, Kecskemet, and Szolnok. The motorway would be split into two directions towards Debrecen and Romania.

The Hungarian government has unveiled its road development plans for the next 15 years.

A new motorway is set to be built between Szolnok and Budapest. In addition, another motorway would be created between the Austrian border, Kormend, near Zalaegerszeg and Szombathely, Veszprem, Dunaujvaros, Kecskemet, and Szolnok. The motorway would be split into two directions towards Debrecen and Romania. The M0 orbital is planned to be completed and a dual carriageway would also be built between Mohacs, Kaposvar, Nagykanizsa, Zalaegerszeg, Szombathely and Gyor.

  • No Vienna-Prague link in Austria-Czech road agreement

    A direct motorway between Austria’s capital, Vienna, and the Czech Republic capital, Prague, is not part of a new agreement on road connections between the two nations. The agreement formed by Austrian and Czech transport ministers Erwin Pröll and Antonin Prachar states that a four-lane A5 motorway will only go as far as Poysbrunn on the Austrian side, and will then continue with two lanes towards the Czech border. The overall road link is due to be completed in 2017.

    The Hungarian national infrastructure development firm NIF has announced that work on a new stretch of the M44 motorway between Kondoros and Tiszakurt is set to begin in 2014. A public procurement tender for building the 62km route is forecast to be called by NIF in the near future. Investment costs are to be covered from EU funds in line with the country's Transportation Operative Programme (KOZOP) as part of Hungary's New Szechenyi Plan (USZT).
