Holcim UK is deploying Fuelre4m’s Re4mx low carbon fuel technology at more than 200 of its construction and quarry sites across the country.

The rollout, which follows three years of trials, is designed to reduce fuel use, lower emissions, and improve performance with no engine modifications.

Holcim UK says that, during trials, Re4mx helped achieve a 15 to 20% drop in fuel use; up to 23% fewer emissions from fuel burned, including CO₂, NOx and particulate matter; improved combustion quality and smoother engine performance, including lower exhaust temperatures; zero disruption to operations with no engine changes, no downtime or retrofit required; and greater consistency and predictability in fleet fuel performance.

Holcim tracked the impact using standard fuel flow and engine data monitoring tools, ensuring the results reflected real working conditions.

Re4mx will be delivered in pre-measured containers and dosed directly into on-site fuel systems across the UK locations.

Edern Lalanne, Holcim UK supply chain director, commented: “This agreement is the result of meticulous testing, collaboration, and operational learning. We have seen consistent results with Re4mx across a wide range of use cases, and it aligns directly with our commitment to sustainable innovation and operational excellence."

UAE-based Fuelre4m is currently ramping up production for the national rollout. Manufacturing is underway, with shipments to the UK beginning once production is complete. From there, Re4mx will be distributed site-by-site across Holcim’s network, through Fuelre4m’s VIRDIS (Virtual Distribution) system, in preparation for full dosing from September 1.

In parallel, Fuelre4m is working with Holcim to tailor and implement the digital infrastructure behind the programme. This includes an AI-enabled dashboard that is designed to ensure full traceability, real-time accountability, and blockchain-based verification at every stage.

Rob Mortimer, CEO of Fuelre4m Group, commented on the Holcim UK rollout: "This contract is not just about supplying product, it is about delivering integrated solutions. From inventory management and digital oversight to emissions tracking and site-level service, our focus is practical decarbonisation with immediate operational impact. Holcim has set a clear benchmark for commitment and leadership in this space.”

Holcim UK is the first in the Holcim global group to implement Fuelre4m’s high-efficiency combustion technology at national scale, which its says sets a new standard for measurable decarbonisation across the construction industry. Holcim UK and Fuelre4m add that they are also exploring how to extend this impact to additional transport and logistics providers across the wider construction supply chain.

Fuelre4m’s Re4mx solution is currently available in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

  • The Path to Climate-Neutral Road Construction
    October 1, 2023
Machine manufacturers and construction companies around the globe are currently searching for ways to achieve the goal of climate-neutral construction. The challenge here is to successively reduce emissions of CO2 and other harmful gases (summarized to CO2 equivalents: CO2e) around the world to zero over the coming decades. In the road construction sector, this transformation is inextricably linked to the improvement and further development of production and working processes. In the future, machines and construction materials will also be assessed based on the climate-harmful emissions arising from their production and use. However, the focus should not be on individual machines, but on the entire process leading up to the finished product – a road. Ultimately, the decisive factor is the emissions generated per kilometer of newly built or rehabilitated road – the “CO2e per work done”.
