Hitachi’s ZX870LCH-5 excavator is said to be built for extreme job sites
With an operating weight of 83.8 – 86tonnes, 233 Hitachi’s giant ZX870LCH-5 excavator is said to be built to operate on the most demanding job sites, such as large-scale construction projects and in busy quarries.

The model incorporates the HIOS IIIB hydraulic system, said to allow for faster operation with lower fuel consumption and increased front speed. The ZX870LCH-5 is claimed to have 6% more productivity in H/P mode compared to the previous Zaxis model. Swing torque is also said to have increased by 9% and the speed of light-load operations, such as grading, has also improved, due to a larger volume of hydraulic flow.

The ZX870LCH-5 has a 397kW Stage IIIB-compliant engine said to deliver higher productivity and greater fuel efficiency. Its in-built muffler filter helps to reduce emissions by capturing air pollutants. Additionally, the excavator’s auto shutdown and auto idler features enhance fuel consumption and reduce noise, exhaust emissions and CO2.

The durable ZX870LCH-5 has been designed with a reinforced undercarriage, and a strengthened boom and arm. It boasts a maximum 14.1m digging reach, and a digging depth of up to 8.87m.

The ergonomically-designed OPG (level II)-compliant cab of the new ZX870LCH-5 meets industry standards for safety and has been designed to protect the operator from falling objects on the job site. The front window, made of laminated glass, is fixed to shut out dirt and debris.

To ensure optimum performance and maximum availability, the ZX870LCH-5 is said to have been designed for easy maintenance. The multi-function LCD monitor displays at-a-glance maintenance data, and it is said to be possible to set the routine service schedule every time the ignition switch is turned on.

The fuel filters and engine oil filter can be replaced easily from the excavator’s walkway. The excavator is also equipped with a solenoid fuel pump, which, according to Hitachi, means there is no need to pump manually if the engine stops due to lack of fuel or while the main fuel filter is being changed.

Other large excavators in the new Zaxis-5 range are the ZX470LCH-5 and the ZX670LCH-5.
