Highways Agency announces 2012 supplier recognition scheme winners

The Highways Agency has announced the winners and highly commended entrants for the second year of its supplier recognition scheme. The 2309 Highways Agency has announced the winners and highly commended entrants for the second year of its supplier recognition scheme.

The scheme recognises suppliers who are deemed to be demonstrating class-leading performance in driving down costs and delivering increasingly efficient and effective customer services, promoting best practice in the Agency’s supply chain.

The annual recognition programme highlights the important contribution made by the Agency’s suppliers, who play a vital role in supporting the Agency in operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England.

This year’s categories and winners were:

• Managing down cost/improving value - Joint Winners:  2958 Amey, for demonstrating commitment in improving value in operating the Area 9 MAC; and 2319 Costain 2435 Carillion JV for achieving efficiencies throughout the M1 J10-J13 improvement scheme.

• Supply chain management - Winner: 3557 EnterpriseMouchel for their work in developing their extended supply chain and obtaining BS11000 accreditation for collaborative business relationships.

• Health and safety - Winner: 2399 Tarmac, for their comprehensive safety culture, and Costain Carillion JV for their safety record on the M1 J10-J13 improvement scheme.

• Building & sustaining capability -Winner: Amey for their Talent Scheme, bringing in young talent and up-skilling current employees.

• Delivering sustainable value and solutions -Winner: 1146 Balfour Beatty for their efforts in sustainable development of the A46 Newark to Widmerpool scheme, including zero waste to landfill.

There was also a special commendation for service during the Olympic and Paralympic Games this year, awarded to FMG for their extra support during this time, helping to ensure that vehicles and incidents were cleared as quickly as possible.

Graham Dalton, chief executive of the Highways Agency, said:  "It is more important than ever that we create an environment where our suppliers are encouraged to share their best practice and effective, imaginative solutions to further improve our delivery in all aspects of the service we provide.

"We are very proud to be able to publicly congratulate those suppliers who have clearly demonstrated innovation and effectiveness in helping us to deliver a truly effective strategic road network."
