The German province of Baden- Württemberg has issued a list of 20 ready to be built federal trunk road projects worth a combined US$1.01billion (€800mn).The first five could be started in 2014 and the next five in 2015 or 2016.
It will cost US$ 7 billion over the next 20 years to maintain the US state of North Dakota’s township and county roads, according to a new study by the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) at North Dakota State University. The study highlights how the roads have been affected by truck traffic following the growth in North Dakota's economy. A similar survey was done by the UGPTI in 2010. Spending worth $654 million was suggested on road upkeep for the coming 24 months.
A new road safety plan for the UK has been announced. This includes a major package of measures to reduce the number of people killed and injured on roads.
The action plan is designed to improve safety for people at every stage of life – from infants in car seats to those with years of driving experience. It includes increased penalties for failing to wear a seatbelt one of 74 measures being considered.

Rwanda looks set to commence work on a major road revamp project. The project is for the construction of the 51km Base-Gicumbi-Rukomo road. Financing for the project is coming in the shape of a loan worth some US$74.7 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB). The Rwandan Government will also provide another $4.6 million for the road project later.
