The German province of Baden- Württemberg has issued a list of 20 ready to be built federal trunk road projects worth a combined US$1.01billion (€800mn).The first five could be started in 2014 and the next five in 2015 or 2016.
John Peck Construction has been awarded the contract to carry out the first major road stability scheme at Niton’s Undercliff on the Isle of Wight, England’s largest island.
This project is part of a major programme of special geotechnical schemes being delivered by Island Roads (made up of VINCI Concessions, Meridiam Infrastructure and Ringway) under the Highways PFI to maintain the highway at locations prone to ground movement.
The authorities in Uzbekistan are planning for a series of major road projects in a bid to boost the country’s transport connections and freight handling capabilities. A total of 2,306km of roads will be either built or upgraded in the country by 2015. Priority projects include building 1,008km of roads in the Beyneu-Andijan area, as well as rebuilding a 100km stretch of the Tashkent-Osh road. A total of 517km of roads and 544km of viaducts are to be to be built in 2012 under the plans.
The Italian-Slovak consortium of HANT BA DS and INC has been excluded by the Slovak national motorway company NDS from the tender for the construction of a 15.25km stretch of the Hubova-Ivachvova D1 motorway in Slovakia. Slovak company HANT BA DS has asked NDS to revaluate its decision as it claims that its offer fulfils all tender conditions. An inspection carried out by German specialists has highlighted technical issues with five bridges in the Czech city of Ostrava. The Czech Road and Motorway Headquarters (RSD) has said that a more comprehensive study will be required before the type of repairs needed can be identified and a programme of works established. There have been questions over the scope and accuracy of the one day inspection however.
