Romania’s national road agency reports that it has four offers for both the design and construction of Lot 4 of the Sibiu-Pitesti A1 motorway.

The National Company for the Administration of Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) said the value of the deal is around €427.5 million. Construction is likely to take 60 months - 16 months for design work and 44 for construction.

The bidders are from China, Turkey, Austria and Italy.

Lot 4 runs nearly 11km from Curtea de Argeș to Tigveni.

The 576km A1will connect the capital Bucharest with the Banat and Crișana regions in the western part of the country, running in a south-east to north west direction. It connects the major cities of Pitești, Sibiu, Deva, Timișoara and Arad, reaching Hungary's M43 motorway near Nădlac.

The motorway is built along the Trans-European Transport Networks Rhine-Danube Corridor and so reportedly receives 85% funding from the 1116 European Union.
