First public outing for Liebherr tower crane at INTERMAT

Liebherr used INTERMAT 2012 to show its new 380 EC-B 16 Litronic flat-top crane. The 380tonne unit tops the 15-model range, which starts from 50tonnes. The new “flagship” can lift loads of up to 3,400kg at its 75m maximum radius. With the Litronic system, the 380 EC-B 16 can provide up to 20% more load lift at the push of a button. This is achieved by integrating the load-moment limiting system, the ABB operating-range limiting system and the MDA machine data evaluation program.

The 380 EC-B 16 superstructure can be fitted to both Liebherr’s IC or HC tower systems. The IC towers are 1.9 x 1.9metres and the climbing system allows it to climb both on and inside a building. With the IC tower system, the free-standing hook height can be almost 70m, while on the HC tower system that increases to almost 85m.

Speeding assembly are Liebherr’s ‘Connect and Work’ quick-action connections for the jib and counter-jib, LiConnect jib connections and electrical plug-in connections for the drives and switchgear.

There are slip-resistant catwalks on the jib and counter-jib along with safety railings where needed.

A four-chord counter-jib enables five trucks to transport the complete superstructure with each individual part able to fit into a container.

Volvo’s F-series articulated dump trucks with full suspension can be specified with the company’s On Board Weighing (OBW) system, which won Gold in the Civil Engineering Equipment category of the prestigious Intermat 2012 Innovation Awards. The OBW cleverly monitors weight from pressure sensors in the ADT’s suspension system, to give payload information. The fully automatic system logs all transported loads. When used with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system OBW can be accessed remotely, revealing total tran
