The organisers aim to emulate the success of the past FIRM event

The next 5160 FEHRL Infrastructure Research Meeting 2015 (FIRM15) event will be held on 22nd-23rd April 2015 in Brussels. This key conference features the theme ‘Innovative maintenance of Transport Infrastructure. Faster, cheaper, more reliable, safer, greener’. The language for the event will be English and it will cost €150 Euros/person, which covers the two day conference as well as the exhibition entrance and attendance for the evening cocktails.

This event will help provide scientific input to Europe and national government policy on highway engineering and road transport matters. Its aim is to create and maintain an efficient and safe road network in Europe, as well as to increase innovation in European road construction and road-using industries. The event also aims to improve the energy efficiency of highway engineering and operations and to protect the environment and improve quality of life.

This landmark event aims to draw some 120 leading transport infrastructure innovation and research experts. These will include European and national policy makers, leading industry, standardisation agencies, SME's and industry-focussed media. The organisers say that the FIRM15 event will feature multiple information sessions on a number of key themes. For infrastructure these will include engineering and technical solutions while for systems, they will include maintenance operations as well as monitoring inspections. In addition at the governance level, there will be sessions on management and financial issues.

In anticipation of the strong response expected FEHRL has pre-booked rooms in two hotels. Meanwhile there is also a call for exhibitors. This will allow firms and organisations to showcase their technologies, services or initiatives for a small cost at the exhibition, which to take place during FIRM15.

The FIRM15 event aims to match the success of the previous conference, which proved successful and attracted attendees from all over Europe, as well as the US. Key topics under discussion then included road safety, with important parallels being drawn between European and US experience in tackling major challenges to reducing casualty rates and making infrastructure more forgiving.
