Ethiopia's innovative road budget

The Ethiopian Parliament has approved the country's largest budget. The government raised the budget for the 2010-2011 period by 20% from US$4.77 billion in 2009-2010 to $5.71 billion for the current financial year. RSSThe Ethiopian Parliament has approved the country's largest budget. The government raised the budget for the 2010-2011 period by 20% from US$4.77 billion in 2009-2010 to $5.71 billion for the current financial year. A substantial portion will be allotted to the nine federal regions while $2.65 billion will be used for development spending, with $887.4 million for road infrastructure. The Ethiopian Government has said that some 70% of the 2010-2011 budget will be used on infrastructure development and poverty eradication programmes, which include a special focus on improving the country's road network.

    In Colombia progress is being made with the the Autopistas de la Prosperidad road programme. The local authorities in Antioquia have approved funds worth US$268.66 million for this project. Overall the project has funding worth $716.65 million available. The project is for a 50km section of highway between Santa Fe (Antioquia) and Canasgordas. One of the most costly components will be for the construction of the Toyo tunnel along the route. This project will be opening for tenders in the first half of 2014.

  • Work on new stretch of M44 motorway, Hungary from 2014

    The Hungarian national infrastructure development firm NIF has announced that work on a new stretch of the M44 motorway between Kondoros and Tiszakurt is set to begin in 2014. A public procurement tender for building the 62km route is forecast to be called by NIF in the near future. Investment costs are to be covered from EU funds in line with the country's Transportation Operative Programme (KOZOP) as part of Hungary's New Szechenyi Plan (USZT).
