Ethiopia is developing plans to expand its road network and boost regional connectivity. The plans call for four major highways to be built, linking capital Addis Ababa to the country’s regions. The four highways will measure a total of 300km when complete, although the work is likely to face technical challenges due to the difficult topography in some areas.

One highway will link Addis Ababa with Dessie in the northwest of the country while another will improve connections with Jimma in the south east. Another highway will link to Debre Markos in the centre of the country, with the fourth linking to Nekemte in the centre west of Ethiopia.
