Doosan’s not just all torque

Powered by the six-cylinder Scania DC13 Tier 2 diesel engine with a gross power output of 368 kW (500 HP) at 2,100 rpm, the new Doosan DA40 articulated dump truck is said by the company to offer 10% more engine power than the previous MT41 model. The South Korean firm also says that the machine’s gross torque of 2,373Nm at 1,300 rpm, a 22% increase on the MT41, is the highest in the ADT market.Contributing to an overall 8% reduction in fuel consumption on the MT41 is the new ZF transmission offering eight f

Doosan's DA40 dump truck live at INTERMAT
Powered by the six-cylinder 759 Scania DC13 Tier 2 diesel engine with a gross power output of 368 kW (500 HP) at 2,100 rpm, the new 695 Doosan DA40 articulated dump truck is said by the company to offer 10% more engine power than the previous MT41 model.

The South Korean firm also says that the machine’s gross torque of 2,373Nm at 1,300 rpm, a 22% increase on the MT41, is the highest in the ADT market.
Contributing to an overall 8% reduction in fuel consumption on the MT41 is the new 2304 ZF transmission offering eight forward and four reverse speeds. Doosan says the new transmission improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels, thus enabling outstanding traction. To withstand the increased power, the driveline dimensions and cooling capacity of the truck have been increased.

The DA40 is said to combine ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption with a higher top speed of 58 km/h (36 mph). The DA40 also has an increased body capacity of 24.4 m³, and the payload has been boosted to 40 metric tonne without tailgate, an increase of more than 15% over the payload of the MT41. Doosan claims that the higher speeds and payloads of the DA40 will allow customers to increase profits from their mining, quarrying or earthmoving operations.

Said to build on the success of the MT31 model which it replaces, the new Doosan DA30 ADT) has a payload of 28tonnes.

Driven by the 5-cylinder Scania DC9 Tier 2 diesel engine with a gross power output of 276kW, the DA30 offers an 8% increase in engine power compared to the MT31. In combination with the greater engine power, the DA30 also has 30% more gross torque (1,873 Nm at 1,300 rpm) than the MT31, to produce the powerful rim pull required to work in extreme hauling conditions.

Doosan says the exceptionally flexible and agile undercarriages on the DA40 and DA30, designed to ensure that all six wheels are in permanent contact with the ground, mean that the ADTs can operate on very rough and soft terrain on construction sites, such as road projects and mass excavation hauling, as well as in mining and quarrying applications.
