Desert link for China

Work is now underway in China on a new 157.5km highway link, being constructed through one of the country's desert areas.

Work is now underway in China on a new 157.5km highway link, being constructed through one of the country's desert areas. The project is being carried out in Gansu Province and is the first highway project in this area.

The work is due for completion in 2014 and is expected to cost US$1.12 billion. When complete the highway will connect Shuangta in Wuwei city's Gulang County with Yingpanshui in Baiyin city's Jingtai County.

Meanwhile a new 204km highway is being built that will connect Zhangjiakoi with Chengde. This four-lane highway will cost $3.29 billion and has been approved by the 3415 Hebei Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

    A total of US$2.42 billion is being invested in five high-speed road projects in China's Henan Province. The highways have a total length of 205km and construction work is already underway. Some $1.2 billion will be spent on the 108km road link between Dengfeng City and Weishi Expressway with a length of around 108km, while $377 million will be invested in a 37km road project connecting Wuxi Expressway and Yuntai Mountain.
