Only 22km of new motorways will open in the Czech Republic in 2011 according to the Roads and Motorways Directorate (RSD).

Only 22km of new motorways will open in the Czech Republic in 2011 according to the 2873 Road and Motorway Directorate (RSD). The longest new section will be 7.5km of the R6 road between Nove Sedlo and Sokolov. The most optimistic scenario for completion of the Czech motorway network is in 2025 but the worst case scenario says that it may be 100 years later.

R35 connects the Bohemia and Moravia regions and runs parallel to the D1 motorway, the longest in the country. Mott MacDonald will design a 5.8km section of the expressway, including three bridges, two interchanges, two roundabouts, four overpasses and one railway viaduct.     Progress is being made in the Czech Republic on two key urban tunnel projects. In capital Prague, the Czech contractor Metrostave has now completed the drilling portion of the Letna section of the Blanka road tunnel. Local residents have complained about the noise, vibration and cracks in their properties that they say have been generated by the drilling and blasting work. The project looks as though its completion date will be later than first planned however.
