Czech highway tenders open

In the Czech Republic tenders worth €146.15 million are now open for bids. The bidding process was started for the 50 tenders by the Czech Roads and Motorways Directorate (RSD). Most of the tenders relate to the D1 and D3 highway project, the Prague Ring Road and the R6 link between Prague and Karlovy Vary and for documentation and technical supervision of the upgrade works. RSD will also spend €32.4 million on the technical supervision of smaller projects in the next four years.

    The tender process for a new highway in South Africa is now open for bids. The US$392.5 million project is for the north-west corridor of the Rustenburg Rapid Transport (RRT). Bids are also open now for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and topographical as well as structural services. The RRT is scheduled to start construction in June 2012 and be ready for use in 2015.

    Progress is being made in the Czech Republic on two key urban tunnel projects. In capital Prague, the Czech contractor Metrostave has now completed the drilling portion of the Letna section of the Blanka road tunnel. Local residents have complained about the noise, vibration and cracks in their properties that they say have been generated by the drilling and blasting work. The project looks as though its completion date will be later than first planned however.
