Preparation work is due to start on the new six-lane highway between St Petersburg and Tosno. This will form part of the new Moscow - St Petersburg toll road. The tender process for the 38km section of this toll road concession will open in 2012. The project is expected to cost US$1.15 billion and is planned to open to traffic in 2015. There are issues over the project however and several groups have raised environmental concerns as the intended route takes the highway through forest areas and agricultural land. The designers say that environmental requirements will be met.
