Upgrade works worth US$600 million are planned for Costa Rica’s Route 27. The project has been planned to be split into four stretches. Improvement works will be carried out between the capital, San Jose and the Orotina Crossing.

The project is being managed by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT). Some of the funding required still has to be secured however.

Meanwhile, the Chinese contractor China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is being allowed more time for its project to widen Route 32. The work involves expanding the route to boost capacity so that it has two lanes in either direction instead of just one lane in either direction and should now be finished at the end of 2024.
