Construction starts on Yichang section of China’s Yichang-Yueyang expressway

Construction works have begun on the Yichang section of China’s new Yichang-Yueyang expressway. Covering 51.8km, the Yichang expressway section will cost around US$613.35 million (CNY 3.82bn).
China’s transport infrastructure expansion programme is continuing at a steady rate. This has been revealed with new figures from China’s Ministry of Transport. In the period from January 2018 to June 2018 US$190.9 billion was invested in transport infrastructure projects across China. However the focus has shifted slightly with an increase in funding for rural road projects of around 1.8% and a gain for expressway projects of 12.8%.
Millions of US dollars are being poured into new and expanding toll road projects in Indonesia.
Wijaya Karya (Wika), the Indonesian government-owned construction service provider, will build toll roads linking Kedung Badak to Kedung Halang and Pandaan to Gempol in Bogor through two contracts worth US$36.35million (IDR 340.80bn) and US$23.98million (IDR 225bn), respectively. Awarded by highways operator Jasa Marga (JSMR), the contracts require the roads completion in 18 months.
Construction work is starting in the Philippines for the new link that will connect the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx). The project is costing nearly US$430 million, with the link being built by local toll road firm NLEX Corp. The new link road will be 8km long, running from the end of Harbor Link in Caloocan City to the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Santa Mesa of Manila. The road link will be elevated and the work is due for completion in 2021.
Work is now underway in Bangladesh on the country's new Dhaka Elevated Expressway. The construction work is being carried out by Italian-Thai Development and the project is expected to help address Dhaka's chronic traffic congestion issues. The project is costing US$1.2 billion and the 26km route will carry the expressway through Dhaka, including Kamalapur, Golapbag, Tejgaon, Kuril and Banani.
