The Philippines Government plans to reopen the tender process for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) project. This public-private partnership (PPP) project is valued at some US$791.7 million. Italian motorway construction and management firm Tangenziali Esterne Milano (TEM) has revealed that work at the building sites for the Rivoltana-Truccazzano stretch of the east Milan ring road will start on 11 June 2012. The total cost of the project is expected to reach US$ 2.51bn (€2bn).
Two highway stretches in Sri Lanka may be sold to a Chinese company. The firm, Shangdong, is looking at purchasing the concessions for the Colombo-Katunayake expressway and the Colombo Outer Circular expressway in Sri Lanka. The two highways have a pricetag of around US$600 million. A substantial portion of the funding for the Colombo-Katunayake expressway, some $248.2 million, was provided by China’s Exim Bank while the remaining $45 million was provided by the Sri Lanka Government.
Plans for massive highway construction projects have been unveiled in China. A 451km highway has been announced that will connect the cities of Yibin an Panzhihua. This is expected to cost as much as US$12 billion, with two firms carrying out the project under the build-operate-transfer model.
