Construction starts on Yichang section of China’s Yichang-Yueyang expressway

Construction works have begun on the Yichang section of China’s new Yichang-Yueyang expressway. Covering 51.8km, the Yichang expressway section will cost around US$613.35 million (CNY 3.82bn).
China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region says it is spending US$49.76 billion (CNY 307.7 billion) on 24 new expressways in 2014. Once completed, the expressways will cover 3,467km. On 26 September 2014, construction started on a 177km Hechi-Baise expressway, while the 92km Hechi-Du'an expressway is already in use. The Hechi-Du'an expressway has a 100km/hour speed limit.
China Railway Construction has won tenders worth US$2.68 billion (CNY 16.67bn) to develop Chinese highways.
The projects will be implemented on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. These are said to be inclusive of the 63.47km Liaocheng-Xiajin section of the Shandong Deshang highway, the 72.41km Yutai-Jining section of the Xuzhou-Jinan highway, and the 82.79km Xing'an-Ziyuan highway.
Construction work on four expressways is commencing in China’s Hunan Province. The roads will have a total length of 179km and the work involves building new stretches, as well as widening and improving existing sections. The cost of this road construction work has been estimated at some US$3.69 billion.
