Concern at Indonesia’s high road death rate

Concern is being expressed at the high rate of road accidents in Indonesia. Official figures from the Police Department, there were 3,927 road accidents between 11th August and 21st August 2012. There were 686 reported deaths in these accidents over the time period.

Concern is being expressed at the high rate of road accidents in Indonesia. Official figures from the Police Department, there were 3,927 road accidents between 11th August and 21st August 2012. There were 686 reported deaths in these accidents over the time period. The number of deaths during the Eid holiday period this year was 10.29% higher than in 2011, while the number of accidents increased by 3.97% from 3,777 a year ago. Of the traffic fatalities reported to the police, 75.5% or 518 were of people travelling on motorcycles. There were also 1,093 people reported with serious injuries following traffic accidents during the period, as well as 3,750 with minor injuries.
