Severe weather conditions in Colombia have delayed work to the key Autopista de Las Americas highway project. This US$580 million dual carriageway will link Colombia to Venezuela, however heavy rain has held back commencement of works on the project. Comsortium Vias de las Americas SAS PSF is carrying out the work and was scheduled to start at the end of February 2011 but this has now been pushed back to March 2011. The heavy rains will also increase the cost of the work due to the need to repair damage as well as to ensure the highway will be safe from flooding.
