Demolition equipment has been used to clear away wreckage from the collapsed section of the Skagit Bridge in Washington State. The bridge, carrying Interstate 5 over the Skagit River, collapsed last week and dropped a number of vehicles into the river. There were some injuries but not fatalities fortunately. The four lane highway bridge is located some 100km to the north of Seattle and is part of the highway linking with Canada. The full details of the collapse have yet to be revealed and will follow an investigation of the incident. The presence of a large truck on the bridge immediately before the collapse may however have been a factor. The bridge had been listed as not meeting current requirements.
