The crawler excavator operator in this incident had a close call when the bridge being demolished collapsed unexpectedly. The accident happened in Belgium during the demolition of an old highway bridge.
A demolition contractor used 180kg of explosives to bring down an old bridge structure in the US state of Mississippi. The Big Ridge Road Bridge in D’Iberville was demolished as part of a project as part of a US$41 million project to construct a new interchange. Work on the interchange is expected to be complete in 2015. The work is being carried out for the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Demolition equipment has been used to clear away wreckage from the collapsed section of the Skagit Bridge in Washington State. The bridge, carrying Interstate 5 over the Skagit River, collapsed last week and dropped a number of vehicles into the river. There were some injuries but not fatalities fortunately.
