Chinese infrastructure growth

Plans are in hand for transport expansion in China. This includes major works in the Chinese provinces of Hubei and Hebei as well as the city of Yibin. In Hubei province the infrastructure programme calls for 6,500km of highway to be complete by the end of 2015. Plans are in hand for transport expansion in China. This includes major works in the Chinese provinces of Hubei and Hebei as well as the city of Yibin. In Hubei province the infrastructure programme calls for 6,500km of highway to be complete by the end of 2015. Hubei Province has spent US$17.07 billion in the first three years of the 12th Five-Year Period (2011-2015) on highway construction.

At the moment, 2,278km of highway is under construction in the province.

Meanwhile Hebei Province plans to spend $3.47 billion in 2014 alone on building and maintaining rural roads and trunk roads, as well as on road network optimisation.

And in Yibin city $1.61 billion is being spent on 157 transportation projects. One of the key projects is for the construction of the Yibin-Xuyong expressway's Yibin section.

Work on the new 218.5km Mianyang-Jiuzhaigou Expressway in Sichuan province, China is expected to begin later this year. Upon completion of the $4.91 billion megaproject, the travel time from Chengdu city in the province to Jiuzhaigou via the expressway will take only 210 minutes. The expressway is expected to be completed within 60 months and is scheduled to be operational no later than 31 December 2018.

China’s new 429km Aksu-Kashgar highway is close to completion. The route is in Xinjiang region and will eventually cost just over US$2 billion, with it due to be ready to carry traffic at the end of September 2014. Construction of the Ziyuan-Xing'an highway is underway. To be completed and put into use in three years, the 82.75km highway will have a maximum speed limit of 100km/hour. The $1.55 billion project is being carried out by 6590 China Railway Construction Corporation.

Meanwhile, China's National Development and Reform Commission has approved the construction of a $4.71 billion road linking Linhe district in Baynnur city with Baigeda in Gansu province. The 936km road with four lanes is part of the Beijing-Urumqi Expressway. A Total of 819km of the road’s overall length will be laid in Inner Mongolia.
