Demand for EVs is particularly strong in the major Chinese cities. Vehicle buyers in Beijing have to submit a request for a vehicle registration. Official data shows that applications for EV registrations reached 17,600, an increase of 5,000 over the previous round of applications. According to the Beijing Times, the city authorities have set a quota of 60,000 new EV registrations for 2016, with this expected to be completely used up by the next round of applications ending in August 2016. So far this year, 25,424 new EVs have been registered in Beijing.

The Chinese Government is encouraging vehicle customers to opt for EVs in a bid to help tackle air pollution in the major cities. The country’s auto manufacturers are also now amongst the global leaders in developing new EV models.
