China’s Shanxi Province is investing heavily in highway expansion

The authorities in China's Shanxi Province are investing heavily in highway expansion. By the end of 2012, the total highway/expressway network Shanxi Province will be some 5,000km. This will cost some US$15.85 billion for expressway construction during the year. A total of 23 expressway projects totalling 1,600km will be constructed during 2012. By the end of 2015, the total expressway distance in Shanxi Province should reach some 6,300km, from 4,000km in 2011.

    In China plans are underway for a new expressway connecting Luohu and Futian districts in Shenzhen. The US$1.58 billion project still has to be approved by the authorities in Shenzhen city.     China continues to develop its expressway network. According to official figures from China’s Ministry of Transport, the expressway network grew by 8130km during 2017. This was an increase of 6.5% over 2016. A further 5.,000km of expressways should be added to the network during 2018. In all China’s tolled expressways extend for some 132,638km.
