China to join International Transport Forum

China has officially declared its intention to join the International Transport Forum, an intergovernmental organisation linked to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) that deals with transport policy issues.

China has officially declared its intention to join the 1102 International Transport Forum, an intergovernmental organisation linked to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) that deals with transport policy issues.

The Vice-Minister for Transport, Mr. Gao Hongfeng, made the announcement during the annual summit of Transport Ministers from the ITF's 52 current member countries in Leipzig, Germany.

Jack Short, Secretary General of the ITF, welcomed China’s declaration.

“We will be delighted to welcome China as a full member of the International Transport Forum. We hope that the formal process of China joining can be completed soon,” said Short, who is to be succeeded as Secretary General by Carole Coune, 42, a Belgian national.

In 2005 she became Director General for Land Transport of the Belgian Ministry of Transport (known as FPS Mobility and Transport), and in 2008 she became president of the management board of FPS, guiding  the Ministry through a very successful Presidency of the European Council of the 1116 European Union.
