In China, 80,000km of new roads are planned to be constructed in 2013 as part of a huge investment in new transport infrastructure. During 2012, 58,672km of roads, including 9,910 km of highways, were constructed in the country.
The authorities in China are now acting on plans announced last year to build a proportion of the country's new highway network from concrete. The new 84km highway connecting Xingtai in Hebei and Fenyang in Shanxi will be constructed with a concrete surface. The project is due for completion in mid 2013 and is expected to cost some US$1.37 billion to construct. This development is of note as the country has built most of its most recently constructed highways using asphalt technology.
The Tunisian Government is setting out plans for a new ring road to be constructed in the Greater Tunis area. Brazil’s government will soon be launching a call for tenders to turn 1,038kms of roads into dual carriageways, with US$3.57 billion (BRL 7bn) of associated contracts up for grabs.
