In China, 80,000km of new roads are planned to be constructed in 2013 as part of a huge investment in new transport infrastructure. During 2012, 58,672km of roads, including 9,910 km of highways, were constructed in the country.
The Brazilian government has announced a new transport infrastructure investment plan involving the concession of motorway operations and modernisation of the railway sector. The private public partnerships are predicted to lead to an investment of US$65.68 billion (BRL 133bn) in the next 25 years, including US$ 39.63 billion (BRL 80bn) to be spent in the first five years of the contract.
Investment in new and existing roads, railways and waterways in the Czech Republic is set to rise in 2013, compared to the sum spent in 2012. The Czech National Transport Infrastructure Fund (SFDI) has a budget of €2.502 billion (CZK64.5 billion) in 2013, compared to almost €2.02 billion (CZK 52bn) invested in 2012. China’s Anhui and Jiangsu Provinces are developing transport infrastructure with a series of major projects. In Anhui Province plans have been drawn up for road and highway improvements as well as upgrades to other categories of transport infrastructure over the period from 2017 to 2021. The road expansion programme will see Anhui Province increase its highway network by 1,157km to 5,700km during this period.
China’s northwest province of Shaanxi plans to increase its spending on highways by 22% to nearly US$8.9 billion, according to an official statement.
World Highways reported last year that Shaanxi was to spend nearly $5.8 billion in 2014.
Of the total, nearly $5.8 billion has been allocated for five highway construction projects totalling 261km.
Within 2015, there will be 600km of new highways in the province, raising the total highway length to over 5,000km by the end of 2015.
