Chilean highway tender process opening

Chile will see the tendering process for four major highway projects open during 2011. These will feature a total value of US$1.85 billion. The project data will be released by the Chilean Ministry for Public Works (MOP). The projects themselves include the $1.17 billion Americo Vespucio Oriente highway concession. Chile will see the tendering process for four major highway projects open during 2011. These will feature a total value of US$1.85 billion. The project data will be released by the Chilean Ministry for Public Works (MOP). The projects themselves include the $1.17 billion Americo Vespucio Oriente highway concession. The tender for this highway project will be launched during the second half of 2011, with the work itself scheduled for completion in 2016. Other projects include the Rutas del Loa (II Region) for $233 million; the port access route in Concepcion for $371 million; and the reconstruction of the banks of the Marga Marga river in Vina del Mar. Decisions are also due to be made in 2011 regarding the $369 million Concepcion-Cabrero motorway; access roads to Iquique ($220 million) and a selection of smaller project for a combined $900 million.

    A major new highway link in Chile is now open to traffic. Sacyr Concesiones opened the 103.4km highway that connects the cities of Concepción and Cabrero.     Spanish contractor Sacyr is to work on two major highway projects in Chile in Concepcion and Iquique, as well as a 78km road in the Tarapaca region. The firm will finance the work using a loan of US$390 million from Chilean financial services company CorpBanca. The 78km road will cost $113 million, while $276 million will be spent on the work linking Concepcion and Cabrero.
