The new redesigned 2294 CAT K Series Small Wheel Loaders—924K, 930K and 938K— being unveiled at Intermat 2012 are said to incorporate new Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim emissions standard engines and many new performance enhancing features.

An efficient electronically controlled hydrostatic drive system, new optimised Z-bar loader linkage, refined operator's station and a choice of couplers and buckets for best matching the machine to the application are among the notable features on the debuting wheel loader models.

Predecessor small wheel loaders—924H, 924Hz, 928Hz, 930H, 938H — will be available in markets having lesser fuel quality and less-stringent emissions standards.

The Cat C6.6 ACERT engine powers the three new K-Series wheel loaders and is said to work efficiently with the machines to deliver fuel savings up to 30%, compared with H-Series models. Emissions-control technology includes a diesel particulate filter that utilises passive regeneration.

K-Series models are equipped with a step-less, four-range, hydrostatic drive system that is said by Caterpillar to allow independent control of ground speed and engine speed for efficient operation of hydraulically powered work tools. A new creeper control feature further improves low speed operations by allowing the operator to reduce maximum ground speed to 1km/h. An operator-controlled rimpull-control system is said to help reduce wheel spin and, consequently, tyre wear, and a standard front differential lock enhances traction.

Caterpillar says optimised Z-bar loader linkage on its K Series wheel loaders blends the breakout power of Z-bar linkage with the parallel-lift and load-handling characteristics of Cat VersaLink or IT (Integrated Toolcarrier) linkage. The new linkage, available in both standard- and high-lift configurations, is said to accept pin-on tools and a Cat Fusion coupler that is compatible with competitive work tools. The new linkage is designed to work with Cat Performance Series buckets, said to be designed for efficient loading, high fill factors, improved material retention and lowered fuel consumption.

New operator's station features include an automatic temperature control, curved front windshield, heated rear window with intermittent wiper, and a Soft Touch control panel. The electronic joystick for implement control is seat-mounted, adjustable and incorporates integral controls for auxiliary hydraulics, directional shifting and differential lock. In-cab sound levels are said by Caterpillar to be reduced to a typical level of 66 dB (A), (68 dB certified), down from 74 dB (A) in the H-Series models
.
Kick-out functions for boom lift, boom lower and tilt are standard and said to be easily programmable by pushing and holding a button on the Soft Touch panel.
