Caterpillar is revamping its range-topping pavers, the AP1000E and AP1055E

Caterpillar Paving is introducing its AP1000E and AP1055E pavers, which replaced the earlier D-Series machines. The machines are said to be able to place smooth mats and deliver high-production as well as redirecting fumes away from operators. The AP1000E is a wheeled model while the AP1055E is the tracked version of the same basic machine. Productivity is provided in part through the heavy-duty screed designs offered, with customers able to choose between the AS2302C, AS3301C, AS4251C and AS4252C.

The AS2302C and AS3301C feature vibratory screed plates, while the AS4251C and AS4252C come equipped with tamper bars and vibratory screed plates.

The innovative Cat Fumes Management System is said to be able to redirect up to 92% of fumes away from the screed and machine operators. The system collects fumes from the auger chamber and conveyor tunnel and redirects these through the exhaust stack. The system is built in at the factory, making it more compact than some aftermarket installations.

The proven Mobil-Trac undercarriage on the AP1055E is said to offer mobility on the jobsite as well as good flotation. The non-directional radial drive tyres of the AP1000E are said to offer large ground contact areas for good flotation, stability and traction. For mobility and consistent speeds, the Cat pavers are equipped with three propel/steering modes: PAVE, TRAVEL and MANEUVER.

The PAVE mode enables the automatics for mix delivery, while the TRAVEL mode maximises speed. When operating in MANEUVER mode, the AP1055E enables the machine to rotate within its own footprint.

In markets that require Tier 4 Interim and Stage IIIB standards, the AP1000E and AP1055E will feature a Cat C7.1 engine with ACERT Technology, while machines that are only required to meet U Tier 3 or Stage IIIA emission standards come equipped with the Cat C6.6 engine with ACERT Technology. Both engines deliver 168kW.

Other features include dual operator stations that can swing out over the sides of the machines for visibility, tilting consoles and a novel materials handling system. The pavers can be equipped with the Cat Grade and Slope control system in the factory. The system controls mat thickness for increased production, lower operating costs, and higher profitability.

The lower angle of Caterpillar Work Tools’ new line of buckets for the E-series Hydraulic Excavators are said to concentrate the power of the machine across a smaller surface, offering less resistance to the material flow into and around the bucket resulting in a smoother and faster dig cycle. In addition, ‘Tip forward’ - the tip position that opens up the mouth of the bucket and lengthens the floor - has been moved towards the operator. This is said to improve both material flow into the bucket and visibi
