Cambodia’s crashes cause concern

Cambodia’s crashes continue to be a cause for concern. The country’s National Committee for Road Traffic Safety says that road deaths increased by 11% during the first nine months of 2017 compared with the same period in 2016. The area identified as haing the highest rates of road deaths were Kandal, Kampong Thom and Phnom Penh. On a more positive note though, serious injuries from crashes slightly compared the previous nine month period.

    Cambodia’s roads show an increase in crashes. The country's National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) has announced official results showing that road related fatalities increased by 14% from 1,950 in 2013 to 2,226 in 2014. People aged from 15 - 39 accounted for 64% of the road crash casualties, while there were 4,645 recorded collisions. According to data from the Swiss federal office for roads Astra, there were 17,803 road crashes in Switzerland in 2014 and 243 fatalities, a drop of 24% compared with the average for the years 2009-2014.
