4041 ITS America has announced it is now accepting submissions for papers and presentations for consideration for its 22nd Annual Meeting & Exposition, “Smart Transportation: A Future We Can Afford.” The three-day event will be held from 21-23, May, 2012, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD, just outside Washington, DC.

On the heels of the 18th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Orlando, Fl., which showcased ITS in action and featured the leading thought leaders in the industry, ITS America’s 22nd Annual Meeting programme will focus on affordable strategies to create smart cities and communities that are safer, cleaner, more livable and less congested.

“ITS America just concluded an extremely successful World Congress which demonstrated the value of the intelligent transportation industry in improving travel efficiency, safety, the environment and the economy,” said Scott Belcher, ITS America’s president and CEO.  “We want to capitalise on the momentum generated in Orlando by continuing the conversation with national lawmakers and policy leaders about how transportation technology is an affordable solution that can be implemented now.”

Papers and presentations should expand upon the theme, “Smart Transportation: A Future We Can Afford” and be based on the following topics: Policy and Strategy; Next-Generation Traveler Information; Infrastructure, Traffic and Congestion Management; Public Transport; Freight and Commercial Vehicles; Cooperative Mobility; Vehicle Systems and Electronics; Environment; and Training and Education. Papers and presentation can now be submitted online at http://itswc.confex.com/itswc/AM2012/cfp.cgi.  The deadline for paper and presentation submissions is 1 December, 2011.
