Bulgaria sees improvement in road safety

Bulgaria is seeing an improvement in its latest road safety statistics. In 2017 there were 6,888 crashes on Bulgaria’s road network, a drop of 7% from the previous year. Meanwhile 6,800 people were injured in road crashes in Bulgaria in 2017 while there were 682 road related fatalities in the same period. The improved road safety presents a notable and positive change for Bulgaria. However the country still had the second highest rate of road fatalities/head of population of any country in the EU.

    Continued improvements in road safety are being seen in Denmark. The latest official data from the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) reveals a continued drop in fatal accidents. In July 2012 Denmark saw four fatalities on the country’s roads, the same figure as seen in July in the previous years. This is the lowest figure since the statistics were first recorded in 1985.

    The UK’s road safety is improving according to the latest set of official statistics. According to the Department for Transport (DfT) figures, 1,754 people were killed on the UK’s roads in 2012, a drop of 8% from the figure for 2011 and the lowest level since national records commenced in 1926. Meanwhile 23,039 people suffered serious injuries in road crashes, 0.4% lower than the 23,122 in 2011 but 15% lower than the average for the 2005-2009 period.
