Haji Supry attended the event and said that 90% of road crashes during the years up to the end of 2015 were from car-on-car collisions, while motorcyclists were involved in 1%. Bicycle and pedestrians accounted for an additional 1%, while hit-and-runs accounted for 4%. In 2015, 36 fatalities were recorded, a rise from the 24 fatalities recorded in 2014. Statistics on the causes of the crashes were based on a study conducted by Institut Teknologi Brunei and JPD. A total of 85% to 95% of crashes are linked to driver error, while 3% to 4% are due to vehicle defects. The remaining are due to road defects.
