Brazil road auctions set for this quarter

Sao Paulo state is due to auction the Sorocabana, the first concession, by the end of the month.

At least seven road concessions are set to be auctioned in Brazil in before the end of this year, according to the newspaper Valor Economico.

Sao Paulo state is due to auction the Sorocabana, the first concession, on October 30 and involve US$1.74 billion investment. It will be followed by Rota do Zebu on October 31 with investment of around $870 million.

Nova Raposo with investments of $320 million will follow on November 28.

Mato Grosso do Sul and the federal government will auction Rota da Celulose for around $1.74 billion on December 5.

Rota Verde with investments of $720 million and the third batch of Rodovias do Parana with investments of $2 billion will be auctioned on December 12.

Finally, on December 19, the sixth batch of Estradas do Parana will be auctioned, with investments of $2.34 billion.

    The transport corridor created by the Transistmico project, linking the port of Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz) with Salina Cruz (Oaxaca) in Mexico, should be operational within three years if US$2 billion of investment is secured.   • Tunisia to rebuild road routes

    Tunisia has major plans to upgrade its road network, with work due to commence in 2016. The Tunisian Government has said it intends to modernise 718km of roads across the country. The aim is to widen roads to 7.6m so that they meet international standards. The scheme will cover 21 governorates. Five national roads will be upgraded with a total distance of 105km, while 20 regional roads covering a distance of 320km will be updated. The project will also improve 20 local roads with a total distance of 294km.

    The Russian government is allocating an extra US$1.56 billion (RUB 51bn) for the construction of new airports and roads in FIFA World Cup 2018 host regions. The Russian transport system development programme for 2010-2020 is reported to have been amended accordingly. Of the overall new funding pot, $936.34 million (RUB 30.7bn) will be spent on road construction. The government is looking to attract private investors to contribute to the new road and airport works through public-private partnerships.
