The bridge will extend nearly 1.3km in length when complete and cable-stayed portion of the bridge measures 630m, with a 350m central span that is wide enough to allow shipping in the Paraguay River. The new bridge will provide an improved transport connection between Porto Murtinho in Brazil and Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay. The design of the Bioceánica Bridge is similar to that of the Integration Bridge, also linking Brazil and Paraguay and completed earlier.
The project is being managed by the Paraguay-Brazil Joint Commission. When the bridge is complete, it will form an important link in transport route connecting the Pacific Coast of Chile with Brazil’s Atlantic Coast, delivering the Bioceanic Road Corridor.
