Bosnia & Herzegovina plans to invest some €2.9 billion in constructing highways by 2017.

Bosnia & Herzegovina plans to invest some €2.9 billion in constructing highways by 2017. The plans will be financed by the 1166 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the 1054 European Investment Bank (EIB). So far, Federal Bosnia & Herzegovina has secured €540 million in funding from the EBRD, the EIB and the 1006 Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. This will be used to build 90km of the Corridor VC. Tenders are due to be called for a total of 12 sub-roads. At the last tender, worth €75 million, a total of six Croatian companies submitted bids.

    Bosnia’s highway company Autoceste Federacije BiH will invest €500 million in the construction of the Corridor Vc road. The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan of €166 million to part finance the project. The plans call for the construction of the 56km highway as well as an additional 10km of the Sarajevo ringroad. The cost of the project is three times higher than any other that the country has so far planned. Autoceste Federacije BiH has said that it will finance land expropriation.

    The Government of Federal Bosnia & Herzegovina plans to invest e5.5 billion in building roads, highways and new energy projects. To achieve this programme a new consortium will be set-up to secure part of the necessary capital, while part will be financed by strategic partners. The authorities are also working on plans for construction of the Corridor 5c highway.
