A series of key road projects are underway in Bolivia's Potosi department at present, with the work in hand worth a total of US$524 million. Eight road projects are under construction in Potosi department with another currently at the tendering stage. Five of these road projects will be completed by the end of this year, with a further two due for completion in 2012 and one in 2013. The projects will improve Potosi department's links with the rest of Bolivia as well as internationally with the country's neighbours, boosting communications and commerce. Some of the road projects have encountered difficulties however. Work on the Bella Vista-Tarapaya stretch of road requires a further $5.75 million to be completed. Technical issues have affected the Potosi-Sijllani road section, which forms part of the Potosi-Sucre road. The global economic crisis in late 2008 and 2009 meant that several road projects were delayed, although work was later resumed and is now well underway.
