Bolivia's authorities are planning to spend US$200 million on new infrastructure. One of the key projects will be a new two lane road link between La Paz and Oruro. Transport links are key to the land-locked country's economy.
Work on a new dual lane highway connecting La Paz with Santa Cruz in Bolivia is set to cost US$1 billion. The work will be complete by 2019 and the route will link La Paz with Santa Cruz, running through Cochabamba. The Bolivian Ministry of Public Works says that this project will be carried out in addition to previous developments to the road system between La Paz and Oruro. Bolivia has a major programme of highway expansion and improvements underway at present in a plan designed to improve the country’s transport links. The programme includes 16 double-lane highways being built, costing some US$1.85 billion in all. The work is being managed by the state-run road administration company ABC. The roads will improve connections to La Paz, Oruro, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba. The road between La Paz and Oruro is 80% finished. The other projects will be finished between 2015 and 2018.
Bolivia’s La Paz region is set to benefit from a major programme of highway development work. The country’s road management firm Administradora Boliviana de Carreteras (ABC) is to spend over US$2.58 billion on road construction work from 2017-2020. The plans call for work to nearly 800km of roads, with the aim of improving transport links between La Paz and the rest of the country.
