Bell is introducing its new B25E and B30E ADTs

Bell Equipment is now launching the new B25E and B30E ADTs to its range, seen first in prototype form at the Intermat show in Paris in 2012. Bell’s new E series ADTs offered increased capacity
1240 Bell Equipment is now launching the new B25E and B30E ADTs to its range, seen first in prototype form at the 242 INTERMAT show in Paris in 2012. Marc Schürmann managing director of Bell Equipment Europe said, “There are several improvements over the D series. The A frame design from the larger trucks is now being used in the smaller trucks. There is more suspension travel and this gives more comfort and allows higher travel speeds.”

He added that the increased travel speed is of particular benefit when the trucks are empty and are returning to the loading point, as it means they can be driven faster and reduce overall cycle times, with a benefit to productivity. The load capacity has been increased slightly for both machines, with the B25E able to carry 24tonnes in its 15m3 dump body and the B30E able to carry 28tonnes in its 17.5m3 dump body.

The Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB compliant 2796 Mercedes diesels are rated at 210kW for the B25E and 240kW for the B30E and feature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to help reduce emissions, and which also helps lower fuel consumption. The transmissions for the B25E and B30E have been changed to Allison systems, as used in the larger trucks from the firm. Schürmann said, “We wanted to go to a common family across the range.”

The improved hydraulic system, coupled with the 3713 Allison transmission, has also benefited performance and lowered fuel consumption and he added, “We’ve seen a slight increase in efficiency. We have a better management of the generator and hydraulics, so the whole system reacts more directly.”

Other improvements include more up to date cab isolation, further improving operator comfort, and a larger screen display. This new monitor provides a rear camera view, for safety when reversing, as well as performance parameters and basic fault-finding tools. The firm’s telematics package has been improved too and linked with the in-cab monitor, this should offer benefits for fleet management. Schürmann said, “We can do remote diagnostics now and it’s a big plus point, especially as we’re developing into markets like Russia.”

The E-series truck can store up to 72 hours of machine operation and there are pro-active advance warnings for the hydraulic system. Another technological advancement is that a Bell field technician can plug the screen display onto a laptop and link with the firm’s engineering team at the factory in Richards Bay. In line with the improved diagnostics, Bell Equipment's satellite fleet monitoring system is also benefiting from a major upgrade with a new web application focussing on mapping utility. The system is now available on all multi-media including tablets, smartphones and PCs. The geofencing feature is to be reconfigured to increase safety. This will allow geofencing in multiple zones based on speed limitations related to load, inclination and site conditions. An additional feature will be a map tracking utility giving tracking data.

Wider tyres are offered as an option on the B30E, although this still keeps machine width below 3m to allow for easy on-road transportation of the truck to job sites in Europe. For improved safety and productivity the E-series has an automatically engaged Inter-axle Differential Lock (IDL) giving the vehicle full automatic traction control. A sensor on the inter-axle differential identifies when an axle loses traction and automatically engages the IDL function while the vehicle is still moving. In addition the B30E and B25E ADTs both have limited slip differentials in each axle so the cross locking of wheels is achieved automatically without any interaction from the operator.
