The B30E, one of Bell Equipment’s new E-series ADTs
South African articulated dump truck manufacturer 1240 Bell Equipment unveiled a new generation of ADTs at INTERMAT yesterday.

The new E-series – E is for evolutionary – boasts a wider hood and a “more imposing styling” according to the company. It is planned to go into production in 2013.

Bell Equipment chief executive Gary Bell said, “We believe that our D-series has successfully met the challenges of the world’s job sites and has many strengths and features across the range that our customers would like to see carried forward in our product advancement. Therefore we have adopted an evolutionary approach to the E-series, to build on the legacy of the D-series generation and our decades of experience in design and manufacture, rather than a revolutionary clean-sheet design.

“We’ve stuck to our design principles of delivering weight optimised, high production trucks with superior tractive effort but looked at ways of doing things smarter to provide customers with an even greater competitive advantage in their businesses,” he said.

The company said “ground-breaking ADT innovations” are included in its latest generation of trucks, including standard onboard weighing, keyless ignition, HillAssist, Bin Tip Prevention, Auto Park Application (APA) and standard Turbo Spin Protection. In Europe the E-series trucks will continue to use Bell’s Blu@dvantage system, with its fuel-saving benefits.

Bell said: “In our design brief we addressed the ease of building the E-series so that we could look to increase our already high levels of quality into the way we manufacture. By further improving on our quality in the design and manufacture processes we have been able to build an even more reliable and durable truck.”

Bell has introduced a 4x4 version of its B30D articulated dump truck (ADT). The machine has the front chassis, cab and engine of the standard 6x6 but comes with a shortened rear chassis and a single axle. According to Neville Paynter, managing director of Bell UK, the machine’s short wheelbase reduces the turning circle by around 25%, making it ideal for use in underground mining and on narrow benches.
