Azerbaijan to rebuild roads

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing Azerbaijan with some US$750 million for road repairs.

The 1166 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing Azerbaijan with some US$750 million for road repairs. The EBRD loan will be delivered in three equal tranches to Azerbaijan. A key link due to be rebuilt will the 156km road from Mingachevir - Bakhramtapa.

    Major cost reductions are being seen on some key highway projects in Russia including the new ring road project in St Petersburg, where the reduction is US$192.31 million. The management of the ring road in St Petersburg has signed an agreement with the main contractors (Flora, the corporation Inzhtransstroy) to cut costs by 12-17.6% in 2009-2010.     Odebrecht has been awarded a concession for Brazil’s important BR-163 federal highway route. The 851km section of highway runs through Mato Grosso state and the deal is worth some US$2 billion, according to a report by Business News Americas. As part of its contract, Odebrecht will have to widen a 454km stretch of the route within five years and is also required to build nine new toll booths.
