Australia provides US$107.2mn for Philippines road projects

Three Philippine provinces will receive US$107.2million from Australia for road-based projects. Aklan, Lanao del Norte, and Davao del Norte will receive the funds as part of an existing five-year provincial road management facility (PRMF) scheme involving ten provinces set to end in 2014, revealed Bill Tweddell, the ambassador of Australia.     An important new bridge project is underway in the Philippines. The structure has been designed to be resistant to earthquakes and is located in Surigao del Norte province. The structure is around 85.5% complete and is being built from corrugated steel plates and will replace the Anao-aon Bridge. This previous structure was wrecked by an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale, which hit the area in February 2017.     A series of major highway projects are now being planned in the Philippines. The largest of this most recent set of highway projects to be announced is for the US$1.24 billion NLEx-Cavitex Port Expressway Link put forward. Measuring 15km the route would be constructed featuring four lanes. This proposed link would connect the Cavite Expressway and North Luzon Expressway in Metro Manila. The proposal for the project has been made by Manila North Tollways, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments.
