With emissions legislation dominating the introduction of new machines over 130kW, smaller equipment has not been overlooked. Most firms have been working feverishly to produce quieter, more economical and more productive equipment and Japanese maker Takeuchi is a good example, having recently introduced a new 8.5 tonne midi excavator.
JCB has updated its 1.5tonne 8018 CTS mini excavator. The conventional tailswing machine has an improved lift capacity, thanks to a return to a box-section boom, with an 11% increase in digging depth. Dump height and reach are also improved, and the mini has a new dozer blade for greater pushing performance. Upgraded hydraulics, with longer travel valves increase control and allow straight line tracking while using upper structure functions.

JCB is expanding its telehandler line-up with the addition of the compact 525-60 at Conexpo. According to the firm, the 525-60 offers full-size telehandler performance in a compact chassis. Maximum lift height is 6m and its load capacity is 2.5 tonnes, while the 525-60 is just 1.8m wide and 1.91m tall. This allows it to be operated in sites with limited space.
